Background: The Strategic Advisory Board was started in 2009 as the “long term” memory for District 59 Toastmasters. Many DEC members serve one year terms and are not aware of the history and thought processes that are a part of every DEC decision.

The original format for the SAB was created by Celeste Brown, Markus Kuenkel, and Jaap Russchenberg and was approved by the District Executive Committee in May 2009. (See Document on the right for current SAB guidelines.)

The SAB has conducted research on several topics:

1. Expansion of the District
2. District Conference program
3. How to handle District-level contests with more than ten Divisions
4. Educational Support by the District
5. Internal growth of the District

Mission Statement

The mission of the Strategic Advisory Board (SAB) is to develop long term strategic perspectives for the District 59 Executive Committee (DEC) that shall facilitate fulfillment of the District mission. The SAB will serve the DEC by elaborating prospective strategies that lie beyond the duration of a TM year. During DEC meetings, the SAB will also reiterate previous decisions made when they affect a current discussion.

Purpose

1. SAB will serve as consultants/advisors for the DEC on any issue on which the DEC would like consultation or advice.
2. SAB can address any issue felt to be pertinent to current and future District 59 efforts.
3. SAB can be used as reference for past DEC discussions and decisions.
4. SAB can give longer-term perspectives and strategic guidance beyondt he
   DEC’s one year term.
5. SAB can make proposals for bylaw changes executed by the DEC.
6. SAB can advise the DEC on issues that involve one or more divisions.
7. SAB can give advice on organizational strategies pertinent to District 59.
