The Golden Quill Award

The Golden Quill Award is for the Club that produces the best newsletter.

We will recognize and invite the editor of the winning newsletter to accept the award during a District 59 Spring Conference awards session.

A newsletter is a great promotional tool that a guest can take with them. And while format is only part of a newsletter, layout and design do count in this contest.

Eligibility

The contest for the awards is open to all club newsletter editors in District 59.

To enter the contest, please send an e-mail message to the District 59 Public Relations Officer stating your intention to enter. The entry must also clearly list the following information:

  • Name of the club/area/division:
  • Number of the club:
  • Name of the newsletter editor:

You can submit the newsletters in PDF format, zipped, via e-mail. Please contact the District Public Relations Officer if you prefer to submit paper copies.

Judging criteria:

The Golden Qill Award judging is based on the information in the "When You Are the Vice President Public Relations" manual section "Produce a Club Newsletter and/or Web Site". The judges will look for the newsletters in District 59 that best meet that information. The judges will pick a winner, and possibly one or more honorable mentions.

  • The intent of the contest is to promote effective communication and leadership for each Club.
  • Each competing Club newsletter was published during July - March before the Spring contest.
  • A competing Club published at least three issues before the Spring Conference.
  • A competing Club submitted the newsletters to the District 59 Public Relations Officer by March 31 before the Spring Conference.
  • Each issue of the winning newsletter has three or more A4 pages.
  • Judging criteria: 2011_GoldenQuill.pdf

The District winner will receive an award, in recognition of their achievement, at the Spring District 59 Conference. The winner will also have the opportunity to write or contribute to an article for the District 59 newsletter, "The Clarion" describing their Club (or Area or Division) and accomplishments.
