by Greg Palmer

Chairman, Nominating Committee

Dear Fellow Toastmasters:

It is my privilege to call for your nominations for toastmasters to serve District 59 for the year July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011. Specifically, I am seeking nominations fo

  • District Governor
  • Lieutenant Governor of Education and Training
  • Lieutenant Governor of Marketing
  • Public Relations Officer
  • Division Governors for the Divisions A to J

For your convenience, the following nomination process documents have been posted below to assist you: Go to Forms

Key Points for successful nominations:

  • Ensure your nominee meets the minimum qualification requirements prior to submitting the nomination package.
  • Fill out the Officer Nomination Form as completely as possible and send it to me to arrive prior to the deadline.
  • Any District 59 Toastmaster in good standing may nominate another District 59 Toastmaster for an officer position.
  • You may nominate yourself.
  • All 2010-2011 Term positions listed above are open for nominations. There is no fixed line of succession nor is there an automatic, guaranteed progression from one office to another.
  • Nominations close on Saturday, April 17 at 1:00 pm CET;
  • Election of District 59 officers for the 2010-2011 term will take place at the District Council meeting on Saturday, June 5th at the NH Atlantic Hotel, at Deltaplein 200, 2554 EJ Den Haag (The Hague), Netherlands.
  • The positions of District Secretary and District Treasurer will be appointed by the incoming District Governor.
  • Candidates for incoming Division Governor positions should begin immediately to identify all potential willing, capable qualified Toastmasters that desire to serve as their Area Governors and Assistants.
  • All current Area Governors should be working actively now to help identify potential qualified successors as Area Governors, but should not commit to any candidate, should there be more than one. Only the District Governor can/will appoint incoming Area Governors after an informal evaluation of the most qualified candidate.
  • Identifying all elected and appointed D59 Officer positions early is essential to the success of the next team as they should attend District Officer Training in Den Haag, NL on Sunday June 6, 2010 from approximately 1:00-5:00 pm CET.

You deserve the best leadership we can offer from our District.  One of our greatest strengths, and challenges, as a unique new district spanning 18 countries, and possessing enormous growth potential is our diversity: cultural, linguistic, ethnic, economic, attitudinal and communicational.

As you prepare to nominate our candidates, I encourage you to reflect for a moment on what "ideal" qualities you would like to see in our next leader team(for example):  Has a clear, worthy vision? Connects easily and communicates effectively with people (remember our diversity!)? Can build and motivate a team with a common purpose? Delegates tasks but maintains oversight?  Is willing to dedicate significant personal time/resources to TM throughout the year?  Recognizes successes and mentors/coaches weaknesses?  Knows our leadership and communication programs?  Listens to members, quickly addresses challenges? Is flexible, adaptive to changes?  Is honest with self and others?  Is a role model for you and others? Deserves YOUR respect and followership?  Other qualities?

Whatever your personal criteria, help us seek out and nominate our best future leaders - for the success and growth of our great District Toastmasters 'family'.

I encourage you to nominate all those who deserve to lead us, including yourself!

Sincerely,
Greg Palmer
